German rocket pioneers, 1932

German rocket pioneers. Klaus Riedel (white coat) and other members of the German spaceflight society (Verein fur Raumschiffahrt, VfR) at their testing ground in 1932. The VfR was active from 1927 to 1933, and included many of the engineers pioneering rocketry and spaceflight research. In 1930, the VfR purchased a plot of land at Berlin- Tegel airfield, and called it their Raketenflugplatz (rocket airfield). Over the next three years they tested rockets here, ranging from the unsuccessful Mirak rockets to the successful Repulsor rockets. The Repulsor rockets attained altitudes of over 1 kilometre

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a significant moment in the history of German rocketry. Taken in 1932, it showcases the pioneering minds behind the German spaceflight society (VfR) at their testing ground. Led by Klaus Riedel, these brilliant engineers dedicated themselves to pushing the boundaries of rocketry and spaceflight research during a time when such endeavors were still in their infancy. The VfR's Raketenflugplatz, located at Berlin-Tegel airfield, served as a hub for their ambitious experiments over three years. From failed attempts with Mirak rockets to remarkable success with Repulsor rockets reaching altitudes exceeding one kilometer, this group fearlessly pursued technological advancements that would shape future generations' understanding of space exploration. In this image, we witness men clad in white coats meticulously constructing equipment and experimenting with various prototypes. Their focused expressions reflect both determination and excitement as they delve into uncharted territories of scientific discovery. As we admire this snapshot from the past, let us acknowledge the invaluable contributions made by these visionary individuals who laid the foundation for modern rocketry. Their relentless pursuit of knowledge paved the way for humanity's journey beyond Earth's atmosphere and ignited our collective imagination about what lies beyond our planet's boundaries.
