EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the legendary Manfred von Richthofen, famously known as the Red Baron, standing proudly amidst his comrades from Jasta 11, also known as the Flying Circus. A German pilot during World War I, Richthofen etched his name in history by claiming victory in an astounding 80 air combats. At the tender age of 25, this quintessential ace of aces achieved his first triumph on September 17th, 1916. His exceptional skills and unwavering determination earned him great recognition within the aviation community. In fact, on January 12th, 1917, he was bestowed with the prestigious Orden Pour le Merite (Blue Max) after securing his eighteenth victory. To distinguish himself to allies during intense aerial battles, Richthofen made a bold decision to paint parts of his aircraft red - a distinct mark that would forever be associated with him. Tragically, fate dealt its cruel hand when he was shot down over France in April 1918. However brief his life may have been cut short; it paved the way for another remarkable figure in aviation history - Hermann Goring who succeeded him and later became head of Luftwaffe. This awe-inspiring image serves as a testament to Manfred von Richthofen's indomitable spirit and unparalleled success as one of Germany's most celebrated pilots.
