The Remote Manipulator System robotic arm hands-off an external stowage platform

August 14, 2007 - The Space Shuttle Endeavours Remote Manipulator System (RMS) robotic arm (left) moves away following the hand-off of an external stowage platform (ESP-3) to the stations robotic arm while docked with the International Space Station. Astronauts Tracy Caldwell and Barbara R. Morgan, both STS-118 mission specialists, were inside at Endeavours controls as the shuttles robotic arm lifted the storage platform from the cargo bay to hand it over to the stations robotic arm, also known as Canadarm2. Astronauts Charlie Hobaugh, pilot, and Clay Anderson, Expedition 15 flight engineer, then used the Canadarm2 to attach the 13-by-7-foot platform to the stations Port 3 truss

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photo print, we witness the incredible capabilities of the Remote Manipulator System (RMS) robotic arm as it gracefully hands off an external stowage platform to the International Space Station's Canadarm2. The image captures a moment in history from August 14,2007, when astronauts Tracy Caldwell and Barbara R. Morgan, both STS-118 mission specialists, skillfully operated Endeavour's controls to initiate the transfer. The photograph showcases Earth as a breathtaking backdrop while highlighting the intricate mechanical arm that facilitated this delicate operation. Against the vastness of space, we see the RMS robotic arm moving away after successfully transferring ESP-3 to its counterpart on the station. This single object floating freely in zero gravity represents not only advanced technology but also human ingenuity and collaboration between NASA and its international partners. It is a testament to our relentless pursuit of exploration beyond our blue planet. Later on, astronauts Charlie Hobaugh and Clay Anderson utilized Canadarm2 to attach this portable storage platform measuring 13-by-7 feet to Port 3 truss on the station. This connection further expanded their capacity for scientific experiments and equipment aboard humanity's orbital outpost. Through this mesmerizing image captured by Stocktrek Images' lens, we are reminded of humanity's ceaseless quest for knowledge and advancement in space exploration – pushing boundaries with every new endeavor.
