The new Cunard White Star cargo liner " Asia" was launched yesterday, by Lady Hopkins and Sir James Laing and Sons shipyard at Sunderland. She is intended for the North Atlantic trade and is expected to begin operating by the end of this year. The " Asia" is the first ship to be launched in the coloured white stars post-war building programme, which totals some 80, 000 tons of shipping under construction.
