This photograph takes us back in time to the grandeur of The High Saloon at Castle Howard, Yorkshire. Captured by an English photographer from the 20th century, this print is a remarkable piece from Giles Worsley's book "England's Lost Houses" published in 2002. The High Saloon, built between 1699 and 1712 by Sir John Vanbrugh and Nicholas Hawksmoor for the 3rd Earl of Carlisle, showcases exquisite rococo decoration and plasterwork that once adorned its walls. The interior decor exudes opulence and elegance, transporting viewers to a bygone era of stately homes.
