EDITORS COMMENTS
This print titled "Two Sorts of Linnets from Angola, 1749-73" showcases the exquisite artistry and attention to detail of George Edwards, a renowned naturalist and illustrator. The coloured engraving depicts two species of linnets found in Angola, beautifully rendered by Edwards. Originally engraved by Edwards himself in his works on uncommon birds, this particular print has been re-engraved by Michael Seligmann, a German engraver and art dealer. The result is a stunning composition that seamlessly blends the scientific accuracy of ornithological illustration with artistic flair. The intricate details of each bird's plumage are meticulously captured, showcasing their unique characteristics and beauty. This print offers viewers an opportunity to delve into the world of natural history through art. It serves as a testament to both the skillful craftsmanship of these talented artists and our fascination with exploring different species from around the globe.
