Photographing the northern lights are a tidious and often boring task. Often you are getting out long before sunset, just to be ready when the sun sets.
At this time of year, the temperature drops when the sun goes down, and they drop well under sub zero levels. And then, spending 5 -8 hours out can be a quite demanding job. But the upside is to see the northern lights dance across the sky like this.
