EDITORS COMMENTS
This chromolithograph, published in 1897, showcases the exquisite beauty of hummingbirds from the Trochilinae family. The print features eleven distinct species, each displaying their unique colors and intricate details. At the forefront is the elegant White-tipped sicklebill (Eutoxeres aquila), with its elongated beak gracefully curving downwards. Next to it hovers the Ecuadorian hillstar (Oreotrochilus chimborazo), adorned with iridescent plumage that shimmers under sunlight. The Crimson topaz (Topaza pella) catches our attention with its vibrant red feathers contrasting against a lush green background. Nearby, we find Heliothrix aurita showcasing its radiant golden crown. Amongst this colorful ensemble is the Tufted Coquette (Lophornis ornatus), boasting an elaborate crest atop its head. Standing out with its distinctive horn-like tufts is the Horned sungem (Heliactin cornuta). A true spectacle unfolds as we encounter Booted racket-tail Ecuador (Ocreatus underwoodii) flaunting long tail feathers resembling delicate rackets. The Red-tailed comet (Sappho sparganurus) mesmerizes us with its fiery red tail streaming behind in flight. Two larger species make their presence known - Giant hummingbird (Patagona gigas) impresses us with its size while Sword-billed hummingbird (Ensifera ensifera) amazes us
