EDITORS COMMENTS
Aimable Jean Jacques Pelissier, a distinguished French soldier, is captured in this 1857 lithograph print. Serving his country with great valor and dedication, Pelissier's military career spanned various regions including Spain, Algeria, and the Crimea. Notably during the Crimean War from 1853 to 1856, he commanded the First Corps of the French army alongside British forces at Sebastapol. Pelissier's leadership was instrumental in the storming of the fort of Malakoff in 1856—a pivotal moment that led to his appointment as Marshal of France and Duke of Malakoff. His achievements were further recognized when he became Ambassador to Great Britain in 1850 and Governor-General of Algeria in 1860. In this portrait, Pelissier stands tall donning his vibrant military uniform adorned with epaulettes—a symbol of his rank and authority. The lithograph beautifully captures both his strength as a warrior and sophistication as a leader. This image transports us back to the nineteenth century—an era marked by significant conflicts where men like Pelissier played crucial roles on behalf of their countries. Preserved by Ann Ronan Pictures, this print serves as a testament to Pelissier's legacy as an esteemed soldier and commander
