EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph, taken in the early 20th century, showcases the traditional Scottish clan costume of Mac Nab, as depicted in Volume 2 of "The Highland Clans of Scotland" published in 1923. The image transports us back in time to the rich history and heritage of the Scottish Highlands. The Mac Nab clan, also known as the Macnab of Keillour, is a Scottish sept originating from Perthshire. The clan's tartan, which is worn proudly in this photograph, features a striking design of red, black, and green. The Mac Nab crest, featuring a leopard's head, is prominently displayed on the bonnet, adding to the regal and distinctive appearance of the wearer. The traditional Scottish highland costume, or "kilt outfit," as it is also known, is a symbol of Scottish identity and pride. The kilt, made from the Mac Nab tartan, is worn with a white shirt, a waistcoat, and a red, pleated kilt sash, or "feileadh-mór," which is draped over the left shoulder. The outfit is completed with a pair of ghillie brogues, or traditional Scottish shoes, and a sporran, a leather pouch worn suspended from the waist. This photograph offers a unique glimpse into the past, showcasing the traditional attire and customs of the Scottish Highlands. It serves as a reminder of the rich history and heritage of the Scottish clans, and the enduring pride and connection that many Scots have to their ancestral roots.
