This handcolored engraving, created by Annedouche after a drawing by Edouard Travies, showcases the Northern Gannet (Morus bassanus), Ivory Gull (Pagophilus eburneus), and European Herring Gull (Larus argentatus) in a stunning display of avian diversity. The image is taken from Richards New Edition of the Complete Works of Comte de Buffon, published by Pourrat Freres in Paris in 1837. The Northern Gannet, the largest of all the seagulls, is depicted with its wings spread wide, ready to plunge into the water for fish.
