Hats off as the Norland arrives home. Norland was built in 1974 by AG
Hats off as the Norland arrives home. Norland was built in 1974 by AG Weser, Werk Seebeck, Bremerhaven for Dutch North Sea Ferries partners Nordzee Verdiensten N.V. Rotterdam. Norland replaced Norwave on the Hull-Rotterdam route. In 1982 she was chartered by the UK Ministry of Defence to take part in the Falklands campaign. In 1987 Norland transferred to the Hull-Zeebrugge route when new tonnage was delivered. From 1996, ownership became P&O North Sea Ferries. In 2002 Norland was sold to SNAV as the SNAV Sicilia for service between Naples-Palermo.

EDITORS COMMENTS
Hats off as the Norland arrives home. This print captures a momentous occasion in maritime history. The Norland, a majestic vessel built in 1974 by AG Weser, Werk Seebeck, Bremerhaven, has returned to its port of origin. Originally commissioned for Dutch North Sea Ferries partners Nordzee Verdiensten N. V. Rotterdam, the Norland took over the Hull-Rotterdam route from its predecessor, the Norwave. In 1982, this remarkable ship played a crucial role in the Falklands campaign when it was chartered by the UK Ministry of Defence. Its strength and resilience were put to test during this historic conflict. The year 1987 marked a new chapter for the Norland as it transferred to serve on the Hull-Zeebrugge route after newer tonnage arrived. Throughout its years of service under different ownerships including P&O North Sea Ferries from 1996 onwards, this iconic vessel continued to connect people and facilitate trade across seas. Eventually sold in 2002 to SNAV as the SNAV Sicilia, it embarked on a new journey between Naples and Palermo. This evocative image transports us back to February 2nd, 1983 – an era defined by adventure and exploration at sea. Let us pay tribute to all those who have sailed aboard this magnificent ship throughout its illustrious career.
