The Army and the RAF gave a helping hand to American Air Filter Ltd
The Army and the RAF gave a helping hand to American Air Filter Ltd. Cramlington, to get equipment high on the roof of Drax Power Station, near Selby, Yorkshire.
aF had manufactured three large blow dowN mutes for the power stations superheater safety silencer valve, 250ft above the ground.
But the 18 sections of the equipment, the largest weighing 3, 920 lbs, could not be placed with conventional lifting equipment, so the RAF gave a hand with a Westland Puma helicopter.
The Army supervised the slinging and harnessing of the 18 lifts with Mr Bob Parkin of aF.

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print from Memory Lane Prints, we witness an extraordinary collaboration between the Army, the Royal Air Force (RAF), and American Air Filter Ltd. The scene unfolds at Drax Power Station near Selby, Yorkshire, where a challenging task awaits completion. American Air Filter Ltd had ingeniously manufactured three large blow down mutes for the power station's superheater safety silencer valve. However, these vital components needed to be installed a staggering 250 feet above ground level on the roof of the facility. Conventional lifting equipment proved inadequate for this demanding feat. Thankfully, both the RAF and the Army stepped in to lend their expertise and resources. With precision and skill, they orchestrated a daring operation using a Westland Puma helicopter provided by the RAF. This formidable aircraft became instrumental in hoisting each of the 18 sections into position. Under close supervision by Mr Bob Parkin of American Air Filter Ltd. , meticulous slinging and harnessing techniques were employed to ensure utmost safety throughout this high-altitude endeavor. This remarkable snapshot captures not only a momentous occasion but also showcases how different branches of our armed forces can come together with civilian enterprises to overcome challenges that seem insurmountable. It serves as a testament to human ingenuity and cooperation while reminding us of our collective ability to achieve greatness even in seemingly impossible circumstances.
