An appeal for writing materials for youngsters in Ethiopia
An appeal for writing materials for youngsters in Ethiopia and the Sudan has gone so well that a temporary halt has been called to collecting. Mrs Lynne Barrow, whose idea sparked the massive response, said hundreds of pens, pencil, crayons and gifts of writing paper had been received. Pictured with just a small part of the donations, at the library are (from left) Christopher Hartley (4), Louise Harley (6), Jonathan Barrow (8), James Barrow (7) and Simon Hartley (8). 10th March 1986

The response to this noble cause has been so overwhelming that a temporary halt had to be called on collecting donations. Mrs Lynne Barrow, whose brilliant idea ignited this massive wave of generosity, expressed her gratitude as hundreds of pens, pencils, crayons, and gifts of writing paper flooded in. Captured at the library are five adorable youngsters who have become symbols of hope through their involvement in this charitable endeavor. From left to right, we see Christopher Hartley (4), Louise Harley (6), Jonathan Barrow (8), James Barrow (7), and Simon Hartley (8). These bright-eyed children stand proudly amidst just a small fraction of the remarkable contributions received.
