Space shuttle landing. Space Shuttle Endeavour landing at the end of mission STS-111. The parachute deployed behind the shuttle is used to reduce the landing run, reduce the wear on the brakes and provide increased directional stability in cross-wind landings. Mission STS-111 flew from June 5th to June 19th 2002. During the mission, the shuttle delivered equipment to the International Space Station, including parts of the stations mechanical arm.
