Zhivopisny Bridge, Moscow

Zhivopisny Bridge. View of part of the Zhivopisny Bridge in Moscow. This unusual S-shaped bridge includes a central cable-stayed section that is the highest in Europe. It runs at a very oblique angle to the banks of the Moskva River, so that for part of its 1.5km length it appears to run along the centre of the river. The arch bearing the cable stays actually spans the river. With a height of 105 metres, it has a disk-like structure at its peak - this was intended to be a restaurant and observation platform but has never been opened. The bridge was opened to traffic on 27 December 2007

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the magnificent Zhivopisny Bridge in Moscow. With its unique S-shaped design, this bridge is truly a sight to behold. The photograph captures a view of a section of the bridge, highlighting its central cable-stayed structure that stands as the tallest in all of Europe. Stretching across the Moskva River at an oblique angle, this architectural marvel appears to run along the very center of the river for part of its impressive 1.5-kilometer length. The arch supporting the cable stays gracefully spans over the river, creating a stunning visual spectacle. Standing tall at 105 meters, it's hard not to notice the disk-like structure crowning this remarkable bridge. Originally intended to serve as both a restaurant and observation platform, it remains unopened till this day. The Zhivopisny Bridge officially opened for traffic on December 27th, 2007, becoming an integral part of Moscow's transportation network. Its suspended deck and vertical cables contribute to its striking appearance and make it one of Russia's most iconic landmarks. This breathtaking print from Science Photo Library allows us to appreciate not only the engineering prowess behind this masterpiece but also its aesthetic beauty that seamlessly blends with nature and enhances Moscow's skyline.
