The lake has a surface area of 23,000 square miles (59,600 square kilometers) and an average depth of 195 feet (59 meters). Its maximum depth is 750 feet (229 meters). A shoreline that stretches 3,827 miles (6160 kilometers), making it the longest shoreline among all the Great Lakes. The lake's main tributaries are St Marys River and St Clair River which connect it to Lake Superior and Lake Erie respectively. It also contains numerous islands including Manitoulin Island which is the largest freshwater island in the world.
