EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the distinguished figure of Manuel Quesada, a prominent Mexican army general from the 19th century. Taken in the 1920s, this portrait captures his commanding presence and strong character. With a well-groomed handlebar mustache and a neatly tied bow tie, General Quesada exudes an air of authority and confidence. Born in Puerto Principe in 1833, General Manuel Quesada played a significant role in Cuban history. He led the de Galvanio expedition that landed on Cuban soil on December 26th, 1866. After being appointed as general of the Camarguey forces and later serving in the Cuban army, he successfully captured Las Tunas. However, his command was short-lived as he was deposed from power in December of 1869. Despite this setback, General Quesada's legacy lives on through this remarkable photograph. The monochrome aesthetic adds to its timeless appeal while emphasizing every detail of his face and attire. This image serves as a visual portal into an era characterized by warfare and political upheaval. Preserved by The Print Collector archives, this historical artifact provides us with insight into North and Central America's past. It is not only a testament to General Manuel Quesada's significance but also represents an important chapter in Cuba's rich history.
