EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the essence of Sir Robert Henry Sale and his wife Lady Florentia Sale, two prominent figures of the 19th century. Sir Robert, a distinguished British soldier, served in India and Afghanistan under the British East India Company. Rising through the ranks to become a Major-General, he played a significant role in various military campaigns. Tragically, Sir Robert met his untimely demise during the First Sikh War at the Battle of Moodkee. Mortally wounded on December 18th, 1845, he succumbed to his injuries just three days later. His bravery and dedication to duty are immortalized in this portrait. Lady Florentia Sale stands proudly by her husband's side in this image. A woman ahead of her time, she supported her husband throughout their marriage while also managing her own affairs with grace and strength. The couple's deep bond is evident as they stand together adorned in their elegant attire. The engraving beautifully captures their regal presence; Sir Robert dons his military uniform embellished with medals and epaulettes while Lady Florentia exudes poise in her exquisite dress. This print serves as a reminder of an era marked by colonialism and imperialism when trade routes were established by companies like the East India Company. As we gaze upon this remarkable piece of history captured by an unknown creator but preserved for posterity by Robert Wilson, we are transported back to a time when honor, duty, love, and sacrifice defined individuals such as Sir Robert Henry Sale and Lady Florentia Sale
