EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases the Pylon of the Temple of Isis, located on the Agilkia Island in the Aswan region of Egypt. Dating back to the ancient Egyptian civilization, this monumental structure was once a part of the Temple of Philae, dedicated to the goddess Isis. The temple complex is situated on the shores of Lake Nasser, which was formed after the construction of the Aswan High Dam in the late 1960s. The Pylon, with its towering columns adorned with intricate carvings and hieroglyphs, stands as a testament to the rich history and artistic achievements of the Egyptian civilization. The hieroglyphics on the pylon depict various scenes from the mythology and daily life of the ancient Egyptians. The waters of the Nile River, which once flowed around the temple, are now replaced by the tranquil waters of Lake Nasser. The kiosk, located to the right of the pylon, was added during the Greco-Roman period and is also decorated with intricate carvings. The Temple of Philae, including the Pylon and the kiosk, was dismantled and relocated to the Agilkia Island in the 1960s to prevent it from being submerged by the rising waters of Lake Nasser. Today, it remains a popular tourist destination and a significant archaeological site, attracting visitors from around the world who seek to explore the wonders of ancient Egypt.
