John Riley: A Visionary Artist of the English Baroque Period (1646-1691) This evocative portrait captures the enigmatic figure of John Riley, a remarkable artist of the English Baroque period. Born in London in 1646, Riley was a prolific painter whose career spanned the latter half of the 17th century. He is best known for his dynamic and expressive works, which fused elements of the Italian Baroque with the unique sensibilities of the English artistic tradition. Riley's early training is shrouded in mystery, but it is believed that he studied under the renowned painter Peter Lely.
