Its close relatives, Stapelia grandiflora and Stapelia glandulifera, are commonly referred to as Mandrake or Mandragora, due to their resemblance to the legendary root believed to have magical powers. The misconception arose from their humanoid root shape and the belief that they possessed healing properties.
