EDITORS COMMENTS
In this elegant and historic photograph, the Christening of HRH Prince George, son of Princess Royal, HRH Princess Mary (1897-1965), and Lord Lascelles, 6th Earl of Harewood (1882-1947), takes place at St Mary's Church in the picturesque village of Goldsborough, near Knaresborough, and adjoining the family home, Goldsborough Hall. The Christening took place on the 25th of March 1923. The newly baptized Prince George Henry Hubert Lascelles (future 7th Earl of Harewood; 1923-2011) is held by his proud parents, surrounded by esteemed guests and family members. The young Prince is dressed in a traditional christening gown, while his mother, Princess Mary, wears a simple yet elegant dress and a hat adorned with a feather. The royal family is joined by notable attendees such as King George V (1865-1936), who holds the young Prince, and Queen Mary, who tenderly cradles him. Also present are Colonel Lane Fox, Vicountess Boyne, Lady Harewood, the Archbishop of York, Prince George, Lady Mary Trefusis, and Hon. E. Lascelles, who serve as sponsors for the Christening. This poignant moment in history captures the warmth and love of the royal family as they celebrate the arrival of their new addition, Prince George, in the beautiful and sacred setting of St Mary's Church. The photograph is a testament to the rich history and tradition of the British monarchy.
