The mutiny, which began in May 1857, marked a significant turning point in British colonial rule in India and led to a prolonged military campaign. The Highland Brigade, consisting of the 42nd (Black Watch), 79th (Cameron Highlanders), and 93rd (Sutherland Highlanders) regiments, were among the British forces called upon to restore order in India.
