Youngsters got a rare chance to see some of the finest helicopters in the world at an annual festival at the Bowes Railway Museum.
Bosses at the museum, in Washington, held a special day for hundreds of pupils who were granted a day off from school.
Pupils from the local Springwell Village School were just some of the 400 from Sunderland and Gateshead who turned up for the event.
Among the attractions was a giant Sikorsky Sea Stallion used by the American 21st Special Ops Squadron and known as the Jolly Green Giant.
It was the 9th annual event of its kind at the museum and pupils from Farringdon School in Sunderland provided music with their band, Far Sun.
