EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photo print, we witness the vibrant energy and excitement of Fame. . . Fartown High School pupils as they prepare for their London debut. Aged between 12 and 16, these talented students eagerly anticipate their performance on July 4 at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, where they will showcase a piece of work they wrote and choreographed themselves. Originally created for the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, presented in the Town Hall last November, this remarkable production earned them a coveted spot at the National Festival of Music and Dance after triumphing over other teams from the North in Newcastle. Their journey to this week-long festival is filled with dedication and passion. The photograph captures Janet Reid mid-jump, radiating joy and enthusiasm. Surrounding her are a group of dancers - Georgina Ainley, Millicent Pentle, Samantha Lawson, Ingrid Joseph, and Paula Garside - who exude gracefulness through their poised expressions. At the forefront stand musicians Nicola Bradford, Philippa Bradford Tracy Redfern, and Joanne Faley with their instruments ready to create melodic magic. This snapshot not only immortalizes a momentous occasion but also highlights the power of education in nurturing young talent within performing arts. It serves as a reminder that dreams can be realized through hard work and determination. As we delve into all our yesterdays through Memory Lane Prints' collection, let us celebrate these children's achievements while cherishing our own memories from an era when music education thrived in secondary schools during the 1990s.
