EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back in time to the 1930s, when rail travel was at its peak and the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) sought to promote Cruden Bay as a must-visit destination. The poster, created by renowned artist Tom Purvis, showcases his exceptional talent for capturing the essence of a place and evoking a sense of adventure. In this artwork, we are transported to the picturesque coastal town of Cruden Bay in Aberdeenshire. Spectators gather around a golf course, their eyes fixed on a golfer as he prepares to take an important putt on the green. The scene exudes tranquility and leisurely enjoyment amidst stunning natural beauty. Tom Purvis was not only an accomplished artist but also an advocate for elevating commercial art into a respected profession. In 1930, he played an instrumental role in founding the Society of Industrial Artists, which aimed to enhance training standards for commercial artists and expand their employment opportunities. With dimensions measuring 1016mm x 1270mm, this print is truly impressive in size and detail. It serves as both a nostalgic reminder of past travels and an inspiration for future adventures along Scotland's scenic coastline.
