EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print by Kim Taylor and Jane Burton from Universal Images Group (UIG), we are transported into the enchanting world of a mudskipper. This wet, fish-like creature with its bizarre appearance immediately catches our attention as it emerges from the water. Its large, bulbous eyes seem to be magnified by the droplets clinging to its face, creating a mesmerizing effect. The amphibious nature of the mudskipper is evident in this image, as it effortlessly transitions between land and water. The muddy environment adds an earthy texture to the scene, emphasizing its natural habitat. With its body partially submerged in water, we witness how this remarkable creature thrives in both elements. Despite being surrounded by bubbles created by its own movements or perhaps other aquatic life nearby, our focus is drawn towards those striking eyes that seem almost comically oversized for such a small animal. They appear alert and aware, looking directly at the camera with an intensity that captivates us. This photograph beautifully captures a moment of connection between viewer and subject; there are no people present here but only one animal engaging with us through its gaze. It reminds us of the diverse wonders found outdoors and invites us to appreciate even the smallest creatures that inhabit our planet.
