EDITORS COMMENTS
Great moment in Everton Football Club history captured in this stunning photograph by Andrew Couldridge of Action Images. The scene is Villa Park on the chilly afternoon of December 4,2009, as Tim Cahill (C) scores Everton's second goal against Aston Villa in the Barclays Premier League match. The Australian international, in his signature blue jersey, leaps high in the air to head the ball past the outstretched hand of Villa's goalkeeper Brad Friedel, sending the traveling Everton supporters into jubilant celebrations. This goal was a crucial one for Everton, coming in the 67th minute and doubling their lead over their Midlands rivals. The first half had seen Villa dominating possession and creating several chances, but Everton's defense, led by the formidable duo of Phil Jagielka and Joleon Lescott, held firm. In the second half, Everton stepped up their game and created several chances of their own, with Cahill's goal being the highlight. This photograph is a testament to Cahill's aerial prowess and his ability to rise above his opponents to score important goals. It is also a reminder of the intense rivalry between Everton and Aston Villa, with the blue half of Merseyside coming out on top on this particular day. This image brings back memories of the 2008-09 season, where Everton finished in 7th place, just missing out on European football. Despite the disappointment of missing out on Europe, moments like this one kept the Everton faithful optimistic for the future. Overall, this photograph is a must-have for any Evertonian's collection, capturing a pivotal moment in the club's history and the determination and passion of their players.
