Necking zebras (Equus burchellii) with springboks in background, Etosha National Park, Namibia
The plains zebra (Equus quagga, formerly Equus burchellii), also known as the common zebra or Burchells zebra, or locally as the quagga, is the most common and geographically widespread species of zebra. It ranges from the south of Ethiopia through East Africa to as far south as Botswana and eastern South Africa. The plains zebra is mid sized, smaller on average than the other two zebra species, and thick bodied with relatively short legs. There is some variation in size, based on the animals condition and subspecies. Adults of both sexes can stand from 1.1 to 1.45 m high at the withers (shoulder), are 2.17 to 2.46 m long, not counting a 47 to 56 cm tail, and weigh 175 to 385 kg. Males may weigh 10 percent more than females

The image showcases a group of necking zebras, identified as Equus burchellii or commonly known as plains zebras. These magnificent creatures are surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of their natural habitat, with springboks gracefully grazing in the background. The plains zebra is renowned for its striking black and white stripes that adorn its thick-bodied frame and relatively short legs.
