EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the blind guitarist El ciego de la guitarra, a remarkable etching created around 1778 by the renowned artist Francisco Goya. The working proof touched with graphite depicts the sheer talent and resilience of this Spanish musician. The image measures approximately 14 x 21 5/8 inches (355.55 cm) and is part of a series of prints by Goya, who was born in Fuendetodos in 1746 and passed away in Bordeaux in 1828. This particular piece was submitted as an oil cartoon depicting the guitarist to the Royal Tapestry Factory of Santa Barbara in Madrid. The woven tapestry presented quite a challenge due to its complexity, making it difficult for weavers to accurately interpret Goya's intricate design. Despite alterations being made along the way, this masterpiece remains an extraordinary testament to both Goya's artistic genius and El ciego de la guitarra's musical prowess. Artokoloro has expertly captured this historic moment through their impeccable printing technique, allowing us to appreciate every detail that makes this artwork so exceptional. As you gaze upon this print, you can almost hear the soulful melodies emanating from El ciego de la guitarra's instrument, transporting you back to springtime in Madrid during that fateful year of 1778.
