This print showcases the mesmerizing "Natural history ensemble no 13 Sheet Mixture". The artwork, created between 1596 and 1610 by Elias Verhulst (attributed to), is part of a larger collection commissioned by Emperor Rudolf II. In this particular sheet, we are treated to a delightful array of animals and plants. From delicate butterflies and buzzing flies to a majestic beetle and crawling caterpillar, the insect kingdom takes center stage. A spider weaves its intricate web nearby, adding an element of mystery to the composition. Not limited to just insects, this natural history ensemble also features a fish gracefully swimming amidst vibrant fruits and flowers. Each element is meticulously detailed with pencil, chalk, watercolor paint, deck paint, ink, lacquer coating, and pen. The thirteenth sheet in the series is numbered at the top right corner as part of an album containing drawings of reptiles, amphibians, and various other natural history ensembles.
