The illustrations feature the heads of four distinct primate species: Semnopithecus comatus (Rhesus Macaque), Cebus capucinus (Capuchin Monkey), Ateles marginatus (White-throated Capuchin), and Cebus vellerosus (Woolly Capuchin). Darwin's groundbreaking theory of evolution by natural selection revolutionized the scientific understanding of the natural world, including the classification and relationships between various animal species.
