During its last voyage, from St. Johns to Halifax and on to New York, it sunk after striking a reef at Horn Head Point, Cape Race near Cappahayden, Newfoundland, Canada, with the loss of 173 lives. Built in the early 1910s, the Florizel was a pioneering vessel, specifically designed to navigate the icy waters of the North Atlantic. With its advanced ice-breaking capabilities, it was one of the first ships in the world to offer year-round service between Newfoundland and other North American ports. The Florizel's last voyage, from St. John's to Halifax and on to New York, was marked by both triumph and tragedy. As the crew boarded, they were filled with a sense of pride and accomplishment, knowing they were on a state-of-the-art vessel that could brave the iciest conditions. However, their optimism was soon shattered when the ship struck a reef at Horn Head Point, Cape Race near Cappahayden, Newfoundland, in the late 1910s. The impact caused the Florizel to sink, resulting in the loss of 173 lives.
