May Godfrey Sutton Bundy (September 25, 1886 October 4, 1975) female American tennis champion who was active during the first decades of the 20th century. At age 17 she won the singles title at the U.S. National Championships and in 1905 she became the first American player to win the singles title at Wimbledon. Pictured in The Tatler in that year. The magazine describes her as, The American lawn tennis-player who has come over to beat the English lady champions. Miss Sutton is only eighteen years of age, but has a remarkable forearm stroke and is an adept in the art of placing. Date: 1905
