The year is circa 1906, and this historic moment took place away from the spotlight, long before the commercial aviation industry took shape. Glenn Curtiss, an American inventor and aviation pioneer, is best known for his contributions to aviation technology, including the development of the first successful seaplane and the creation of the Curtiss Motorcycle Company. In this image, he is seen testing his innovative designs in a more unusual setting – on ice. The Wind Wagons, powered by Curtiss's airship engines and propellers, were used in conjunction with ice boats, which were piloted by Captain Thomas Scott Baldwin.
