Michael Foot with John Haynes speaks to supporters.
Labour Party leader Michael Foot was given a rousing receeption when he visited Nuneaton. The crowd of about 1, 000 lined the route which was Stratford Street, Queens Road, Market Place and Coventry Street. Mr Foot was swept along by a tide of cheering supporters as he made his way from Labours headquarters in Abbey Street through the town centre to give a press conference at the Council House. At one stage of the walkabout Mr Foot was engulfed by his supporters. He made a rallying call on behalf of Nuneaton candidate John Haynes saying that Labour had drawn up an emergency programme to get the country back to work.
