Pupils from Deighton Junior School are having a whale of a time producing a Biblical play

Pupils from Deighton Junior School are having a whale of a time producing a Biblical play as part of Deighton Carnival. The musical production, based on the story of Jonah and the Whale, was written by Mr Stephen Byrne, head of music at Headfield Middle School, Dewsbury. The children acting skills have been nurtured by Mr Byrne wife Marian, head of music at Deighton Junior School, and deputy head teacher Mr Andrew Allen. Pictured are the principal characters (from left): Niomi Nelson (ticket collector), Gareth Thomas (Captain), Kathryn Adams (Jonah), Shibon Armstrong (God) and David Rose (cabin boy). Seated at the front is narrator Mark John. Head teacher Mr Donald Radcliffe said: children have loved doing the play, which contains both humour and pathos.he play, which features 50 children, is accompanied on the piano by Mrs Byrne and the dance sequences have been arranged by Mrs Jean Calvert. 6th July 1987
