Happy birthday cubs! And its time to have a party, nine year old Richard Ashley (left) and his friends were among the 150 or so cubs from nine packs who attended a party on the Piazza to celebrate the setting up of the cubs 70 years ago. Turning up in relays through the day, they shared birthday cakes with passersby and put on displays of cub activities. Attractions also included a balloon race and advanced by Newsome Scouts band. Shepley cubs organised the event and were joined by packs from Emley, Skelmanthorpe, Dalton, St Joseph s, Denby Dale, Clayton West, Kirkburton and Shelley. 5th July 1986
