That means Coventry City Football Clubs pounds 135 million scheme to build a superstadium, retail and leisure complex on the derelict Foleshill Gasworks in Coventry has the official go-ahead. The 40, 000 seater stadium should be ready for the 2001 football season. Arena 2000 will include a state-of-the-art retractable pitch which can be rolled back to allow the stadium to be used for concerts and events, a new railway station and a shopping centre with two major stores.
