Poster produced for the Great Western Railway (GWR) to promote rail travel to Cornwall. The poster shows a view of a sandy path lined with stone walls leading toward the shore. Artwork by Edward McKnight Kauffer (1890-1954), who was born in Montana, USA and studied at the Mark Hopkins Institute in San Francisco and then in Paris. He went to London in 1914 and 1915 and was commissioned by the Underground Group of companies. He produced posters for GWR and London Transport and also designed theatre costumes, interior and mural decorations, book illustrations, carpets and textiles. He returned to America in 1940.
