Poster produced by London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) to promote rail travel to Cruden Bay, Aberdeenshire, and the railways Cruden Bay Hotel, which LNER owned and managed. The poster shows an interior view of the hotel, here dubbed The Golfers Hotel, with people sitting comfortably at tables and smoking. Artwork by Gordon Nicoll (1888-1959), who studied at Southampton Art School and at Hornsey under Frank Hillyard Swinstead. He was a member of the London Sketch Club. A landscape painter in watercolour and oil, he designed posters for the London North & Eastern Raliway (LNER), including a memorable series on railway hotels, of which this is an example.
