Artwork of a plesiosaur dinosaur hunting

Plesiosaur dinosaur. Artwork of a long-necked marine dinosaur (plesiosaur) hunting a shark in a shallow sea. Plesiosaurs (" ribbon reptiles" ) had a relatively small head with a mouth lined with teeth. It was probably a fish-eater, using its neck to throw its head forward at prey. It was propelled through the water by four powerful paddle-like limbs which it flapped up and down like the paddles of a modern-day turtle. Plesiosaurs probably came ashore to lay their eggs. Dinosaurs lived during the Mesozoic era (65-225 million years ago)

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases an exquisite artwork of a plesiosaur dinosaur in action. The long-necked marine creature, known as a plesiosaur, is depicted hunting a shark in the shallows of the sea. With its relatively small head adorned with sharp teeth, this ancient predator was likely a skilled fish-eater. Its elongated neck allowed it to swiftly thrust its head forward at unsuspecting prey. The image beautifully captures the power and grace of these ribbon reptiles that roamed our planet during the Mesozoic era, between 65 and 225 million years ago. Plesiosaurs possessed four robust paddle-like limbs which propelled them through water effortlessly, resembling the flapping motion of modern-day turtles' paddles. Interestingly, despite their aquatic lifestyle, plesiosaurs are believed to have come ashore to lay their eggs—a behavior reminiscent of some present-day reptiles. This artwork not only transports us back in time but also offers insights into the fascinating reproductive habits of these prehistoric creatures. Displayed by Science Photo Library, this stunning print serves as a testament to both scientific curiosity and artistic talent. It reminds us of Earth's rich history and diverse inhabitants while igniting our imagination about life millions of years ago when dinosaurs ruled the land and sea.
