Artwork of a Tyrannosaurus rex dinosaur
Tyrannosaurus Rex. Artwork of a Tyrannosaurus rex dinosaur hunting in a forest. Tyrannosaurus (" tyrant reptile" ) was a large carnivore, being about 14 metres (m) long, 5m tall and weighing about 7 tonnes. Its mouth contained sharp, doubly- serrated teeth up to 15 centimetres long. Tyrannosaurus rexs front legs were tiny in comparison to its body. It walked on its two hind legs, the weight of its body being counterbalanced by a heavy tail. Tyrannosaurus rex was one of the last dinosaurs to evolve, first appearing about 70 million years ago before becoming extinct at the end of the Cretaceous period (65 million years ago) along with the other dinosaurs

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a stunning artwork of the mighty Tyrannosaurus rex, roaming through a dense forest in search of its next prey. With its awe-inspiring size and power, this large carnivorous dinosaur ruled the prehistoric world. Standing at an impressive 5 meters tall and measuring approximately 14 meters in length, it weighed a staggering 7 tonnes. The fearsome nature of this ancient predator is evident in its mouth filled with sharp teeth, each up to 15 centimeters long and doubly-serrated for maximum efficiency when hunting. Interestingly, despite its massive body, the T. rex had disproportionately tiny front legs compared to its overall size. It relied on walking upright on two hind legs while maintaining balance with its heavy tail. Belonging to one of the last dinosaur species to evolve, the Tyrannosaurus rex made its first appearance around 70 million years ago during the Cretaceous period. Unfortunately, like all other dinosaurs, it faced extinction around 65 million years ago. This remarkable artwork not only captures the essence of this legendary creature but also serves as a testament to our fascination with paleontology and our desire to understand Earth's ancient inhabitants. Science Photo Library has beautifully preserved this moment from history for us all to admire and appreciate today.
