Saturn V rocket, computer artwork
Saturn V rocket. Computer artwork of a Saturn V rocket that was used by NASA to launch Apollo and Skylab missions. Saturn V was a disposable design, each rocket being used only once. The rockets were 100 metres tall and used liquid hydrogen as fuel. There were at total of seven Apollo missions to the Moon. Apollo 11 achieved the first manned lunar landing in July 1969 and Apollo 17 flew the last mission in the series in December 1972. A rocket based on this design was used to launch Skylab missions, which was in Earth orbit from 1972 to 1979
