13132579. European badger, Meles meles, on grass field
European badger, Meles meles, on grass field. Although classified as a carnivore, the European badger feeds on a wide variety of plant and animal foods, feeding on earthworms, large insects, small mammals, carrion, cereals and tubers. Litters of up to five cubs are produced in spring. The young are weaned a few months later but usually remain within the family group. The European badger has been known to share its burrow with other species such as rabbits and red foxes, but it can be ferocious when provoked, a trait which has been exploited in the now illegal blood sport of badger-baiting. Badgers are a reservoir for bovine tuberculosis, which also affects cattle. In England, culling of badger populations is used to reduce the incidence of bovine tuberculosis in cattle. Portugal Date

EDITORS COMMENTS
Badger Buddies: When the grass is greener on the other side, these European badgers know how to make the most of it! Meet this adorable family of furry mischief-makers who are experts in both snacking and snoozing. From earthworms to cereals, they've got a diverse palate that would put any foodie to shame. But don't be fooled by their cute appearance - these badgers can unleash their ferocious side when provoked! Living life on their own terms, these badgers have even opened up their burrow as a cozy cohabitation space for other species like rabbits and red foxes. Talk about being generous hosts! However, there's more to them than meets the eye. These nocturnal creatures are also known as reservoirs for bovine tuberculosis, which affects cattle. But fear not! In some parts of England, culling of badger populations is carried out to reduce the spread of bovine tuberculosis among cows. So while they may face some controversy due to this unfortunate connection, let's appreciate these incredible animals for all their quirks and charm captured beautifully in this stunning photo print.
