EDITORS COMMENTS
Great moment in Everton FC history captured in this stunning photograph by Jon Buckle: Victor Anichebe's thrilling goal against Blackburn Rovers at Goodison Park during the Barclays Premier League match on January 21, 2012. Anichebe, a product of Everton's youth academy, had been waiting for his opportunity to shine in the first team. And on this chilly January evening, he seized the moment with both hands. The build-up to the goal began with a well-worked team move, with Leighton Baines providing the final pass to Anichebe in the box. The striker, with his back to goal and under pressure from a defender, showed incredible agility and quick thinking to flick the ball over his head and volley it past the unsuspecting Blackburn goalkeeper, Paul Robinson. The crowd erupted in a cacophony of cheers and applause as Anichebe ran towards the corner flag, punching the air in celebration. His teammates rushed over to congratulate him, and the sense of relief and excitement was palpable. This goal was more than just a moment of individual brilliance; it was a symbol of hope and belief for Everton fans. After a difficult season, this goal gave the team a much-needed boost and helped to lift their spirits. Jon Buckle's photograph perfectly encapsulates the raw emotion and energy of the moment, making it a cherished memory for Evertonians and a testament to Anichebe's talent and determination.
