Charles Lux, a French reserve intelligence officer, was arrested for spying by the Germans near the Franco-German border during the Agadir Crisis. He was sentenced to six years imprisonment in the fortress of Glatz in Silesia, but escaped on Christmas night 1911. With the help of false papers supplied by French journalists, he crossed into Austria before returning to France, publishing an account of his exploits in a book.
