The City of Treviso with a Carrack, 1493. The Nuremberg Chronicle is an illustrated biblical paraphrase and world history that follows the story of human history related in the Bible; it includes the histories of a number of important Western cities. Written in Latin by Hartmann Schedel (1440-1514), with a version in German, translated by Georg Alt, in 1493. Illustrations by German artists Michael Wolgemut (1434-1519) and Wilhelm Pleydenwurff (1460-1494), with the assistance of their studio apprentices, among whom was the young Albrecht Durer (1471-1528).
