EDITORS COMMENTS
This aerial photograph, taken in 1995, captures a unique perspective of Nottingham's rich footballing history with an image of City Ground and Meadow Lane. Located on the south and north banks of the River Trent, respectively, these iconic grounds have been the homes of Nottingham Forest Football Club and Notts County Football Club for decades. City Ground, the older of the two grounds, can be seen on the left side of the image. Established in 1895, it has been the home of Nottingham Forest since 1898. Forest, one of England's most successful clubs, has won the Football League Championship twice, the FA Cup five times, and the European Cup twice. The stadium's distinctive red brick stands and the large forested area behind it are clearly visible in the photograph. Across the River Trent, on the right side of the image, lies Meadow Lane, the home of Notts County. Founded in 1862, Notts County is the world's oldest professional football league club. The club's history is marked by numerous ups and downs, but it remains an integral part of Nottingham's footballing landscape. The stands at Meadow Lane, with their distinctive blue and white colors, are visible in the photograph, as is the large car park and the River Trent flowing calmly between the two grounds. This aerial view offers a fascinating glimpse into the urban landscape of Nottingham, showcasing the city's footballing heritage and the unique relationship between the two neighboring clubs. The photograph, taken by Historic England Archive Aerofilms C in 1995, is a reminder of the enduring passion and tradition that football holds in the hearts of the people of Nottingham and beyond.
